Fall Soundwalks 2008
Rambling through Lynn Canyon

28 September 2008; 2pm

Led by Janine Island
Meeting location: Lynn Canyon Cafe, 3690 Park Road, North Vancouver
Transit users take the Seabus from Waterfront Skytrain Station to Lonsdale Quay then take the 229 Westlynn from Bay 3 to Peters Rd. at Duval Rd.; walk east along Peters Rd. to Park Rd., then turn left. The cafe is at the end of the road.

An exploration into the lush soundscape of Lynn Canyon injected with various ramblings-on of the late philosopher/poet Alan Watts. Involvement in the exploration of producing or filtering sounds will be encouraged throughout the walk. Participants may be encouraged to go barefoot when/if possible, but it is not mandatory.

“As poets value the sounds of words above their meanings, and images above arguments, I am trying to get thinking people to be aware of the actual vibrations of life as they would listen to music.” – From In My Own Way by Alan Watts.

The Line From Both Sides

5 October 2008; 2pm

Led by Meris Goodman
Meeting location: Pandora Park at the corner of Pandora and Templeton (one block west of Nanaimo and 2 blocks north of E Hastings).
Transit users take the 135 or the 10 and walk North one block or take the 7 along Nanaimo.

This soundwalk navigates the transitions between the industrial and living spaces around Wall Street. Small pockets of homes sit overlooking ports, surrounded by railroads and high-traffic roadways. Where does the balance exist in these areas in-between, when industrial sound signals begin to mean home?

Presented by Vancouver New Music and the Vancouver Soundwalk Collective.
