Rushes Ensemble – Michael Gordon’s Rushes (US)

Saturday, November 22, 2014; 8PM
Doors at 7PM, FREE pre-show chat at 7:15PM
Orpheum Annex (823 Seymour Street, 2nd floor)

Rushes is a brilliant and hypnotic new work for seven bassoons by American composer, and Bang on a Can co-founder Michael Gordon. Timber, Gordon’s percussion work for six amplified 2-by-4 boards written for Mantra Percussion, stunned listeners when it was performed in Vancouver in 2013. With Gordon’s Rushes, the Rushes Ensemble promise to deliver yet another unforgettable sonic experience.

…like the rippling patterns of the op art it calls to mind, Rushes is full of wonderful, illusory textural effects and little bursts of surprise.” – Joshua Kosman, San Francisco Gate

The Rushes Ensemble includes bassoonists Dana Jessen, Michael Harley, Jeffrey Lyman, Rachael Elliott, Saxton Rose, Lynn Hileman and Maya Stone.

“Rushes” was commissioned by the New Music Bassoon Fund.

Rushes Ensemble is part of #NewMusicWeekendYVR
