Soundwalk and Oscillations at Charleson Park – Aug. 16, 2015

Charleson Park Soundwalk

Led by Jean Routhier

Sunday, August 16, 2015
8PM – 9PM
Meeting place: Love Your Bean Sculpture by Cosimo Cavallaro (look for the big and colorful kidney-shaped rocks) close to the seawall near the children’s playground/off leash area in Charleson Park (999 Charleson Rd.) [map]

This soundwalks will be approximately 60 minutes in length. This route explores the immediate neighborhood around Charleson Park. Across from the downtown area, bordered by a small body of water, a busy pedestrian/ cycle path and a popular park, it features a more intimate soundscape with interesting acoustic perspectives as sound travels across the water divide. The soundwalk will end by the site of the LocoMotoArt exhibit. The soundwalk takes place rain or shine, please wear appropriate footwear and clothes for the weather, be aware the park will have uneven terrain.

This is a partner event with Vancouver New Music (VNM), an organization dedicated to exploring and contextualizing new music and sonic art, through concert presentations, festival, community, and workshop events, and LocoMotoArt Collective.

Oscillations

Sunday, August 16, 2015
Performance and installations approximately 9PM onwards.
Charleson Park (999 Charleson Rd.)

Oscillations exists in situ between the ghosts and spirits of place-past with those who are in present time. It is at a designated urban natural place, through the concept of the oscillation between the electronic and natural worlds, that the very essence of locale forms layers of “disruptions” that will emerge diversely, and sometimes ‘magically’, over time.

Oscillations combines walk-based and site-specific ambient sound, visual, interactive installation and performance works. Giorgio Magnanensi curates several local sound artists, and Laura Lee Coles curates members of LocoMotoArt and guest artists, who will provide projected visuals, interactive and immersive environments in situ.

Participating LocoMotoArt artists and guests: Sammy Chien, Laura Lee Coles, Merlyn Chipman with Jeremy Inkel, Bobbi Kozinuk, Dave Leith, Mark Nazemi with Amir Aziz, Sebnem Ozpeta, Wynne Palmer, Mi Rae Rosner and prOphecy sun, Aaron Rice, Rob Scharein, Phonal and Miles Thorogood, Carlos Castellanos, Stephen Barnes, and Tyler Fox.

Participating Vancouver New Music artists: Joda Clément, Giorgio Magnanensi, and Jean Routhier.

The exhibition begins with a soundwalk (8 – 9PM, see details above) that will lead participants from an urban environment through natural areas to Charleson Park. Experience the oscillation between natural and urban sounds, as well as ambient sound installations randomly contributing to existing sound ecologies.
