Spring Soundwalks 2012

Leaving Footprints: hearing the sounds of home

Sunday, April 15, 2012 | 2PM-3:30PM

Meeting location:  Commercial Drive and East 14th Avenue.
Led by Jenni Schine and Cat Main

As we walk through familiar places, we inscribe our own stories onto the routes that we make. What do these everyday places sound like? Come explore the personal and public sounds of our neighbourhood’s domestic soundscape. Hear the sounds of home. Leave your footprints.
Please wear appropriate footwear and clothing for an hour-long walk.

The Sounds of Sustainability

Sunday, April 22, 2012; 2PM-3:30PM

Meeting location: Centre for Interactive Research on Sustainability, located on the UBC campus.
Led by Tyler Kinnear

Coinciding with Earth Day, this soundwalk invites participants to open their ears to “green” spaces on the campus of UBC, including the recently constructed Centre for Interactive Research on Sustainability. Marked as a “living laboratory” and the “greenest” building in North America, what does the Centre communicate acoustically? In addition to indoor spaces, listeners will explore forested paths and concrete canyons.

Please wear appropriate clothing and shoes, as the walk will take place rain or shine.
