On Curation – Mentorship Project – Application
Application deadline: April 25, 2024, 5pm PDT

Program description

Vancouver New Music’s On Curation Mentorship Project aims to develop and sustain work and research relating to new curating practices. This project will encourage explorations, dialogues and reflections that might bring new perspectives and new ideas to music and sound curation, while exploring ways of creating an accessible and engaging form of sociality informed by sound-thinking.

Participating mentors are Raven Chacon (Diné), Peter Hatch (Canada), Laura Netz (Spain/UK) and Du Yun (China/US). Selected mentees will be paired with a curatorial mentor to work one-on-one to develop programming to be presented as part of Vancouver New Music’s 2025-26 season.

An initial group meeting will be held in late spring 2024, and each mentee will work individually with their mentor through 2024-25. This work may be done remotely and/or in-person. Mentees will present their programming proposal in January 2025. Programming will be presented with the support of Vancouver New Music in 2025-26. Mentees and Mentors will be invited to Vancouver to present their program. Mentees will receive a fee of $2000CAD for their participation in this project.

Eligibility

You must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or have a valid work permit and be residing in Canada with some previous curatorial experience.

Selection process

Applications will be screened by Vancouver New Music’s curatorial team. Those that meet the eligibility criteria will be reviewed by the participating mentors and they will select the four mentees.

Vancouver New Music is committed to promoting equity, diversity and inclusion. We encourage applications from curators who are part of underrepresented and equity seeking communities.
