IMPORTANT NOTICE
This concert was originally scheduled for October 1, 2023 and has now been re-scheduled to March 7, 2024.

If you are a ticketholder for the original October 1 date and would like to attend the new March 7 2024  date, no further action is required. Your ticket will remain valid for the new date.

Best known as a member of Nine Inch Nails, Alessandro Cortini has quietly been carving a name for himself in the world of experimental electronic music. The producer, composer, and musician is known for his lush ambient music, full of smoky restraint. His latest record, SCURO CHIARO, is focused on a single instrument Cortini made himself — Strega, a semi-modular synth and effects box.

With this custom synth, he has opened up a new sonic world with “a focus on the infinite fluctuations of limited palettes, a fine way of hanging harmonic flesh on sinewy rhythms, and an urge to slowly explode minute pulses into capacious sound worlds.” (Pitchfork)

Cortini last performed in Vancouver in 2015. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to see him live in the intimacy of the Telus Studio Theatre, featuring special guest Alexi Baris.

Alexi Baris
Vancouver
Canada

Alexi Baris is a composer based in Vancouver, Canada — the unceded, traditional territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. Baris’s methods are patient and deceptively rigorous, trading in sonics that are at once organized and organic. His is a diligent and painterly approach to sound design and arrangement, in which tiny events are magnified and brought up close, and expansive gestures are repurposed and shifted in scale. Alexi was the artist in residence at the Western Front in the fall of 2023 where he presented his piece Firedamp. Recent album releases include Support Surfaces (Soda Gong, 2022) and Thema (Total Stasis, 2020)
