Experience the sounds of an original and exotic instrument — the viola d’amore — in the hands of celebrated, virtuosic soloist Garth Knox. A colorful multi-stringed instrument originating in the European Baroque period, and much favored by Vivaldi, the viola d’amore’s full harmonic resonance and strikingly subtle and seductive sounds can be heard in a mixture of old and new music, masterfully played by Knox.

Specially commissioned pieces by Farshid Samandari* and Donald Stewart* are set between Elizabethan melodies, Baroque variations along with some newer electronic resonances by Olga Neuwirth, and Georg Friedrich Haas.

(Knox) exhilaratingly liberated every timbre, note or noise his instrument could produce.” – Queen’s Hall, Edinburgh

Olga Neuwirth, “Risonanze…” (1997)
