Letting Go

Scant Intone is the solo project of Canadian artist Constantine Katsiris dedicated to experiments in modern audio. The output varies from stark minimalist tones to densely complex textures with a sound palette that incorporates elements of field recordings, radio frequencies, hand-drawn waveforms, raw data, and digital sound synthesis. Focused on researching psychoacoustics, the perception of sound, spatiality, waveform anomalies, and various audio phenomena discovered while exploring the frequency spectrum, his compositions are excursions in abstract electronic music with influences including ambient, lowercase, microsound, noise, glitch, and drone.

Constantine has been active in exploring the electronic arts since the mid-1990s as an artist, curator, designer, and producer. Over a period of more than twenty years he has been integral in organizing countless events for experimental, improvised, and electronic music both locally and abroad. These events have featured performances by artists from across Canada as well as international artists from all over the globe. This experience has lead him to be involved with programming showcases for world-renowned festivals and booking tours for artists on Panospria, his own sub-label of No Type Records based in Montréal.

Live performances have been numerous over the past years, including many collaborations and improvisations with like-minded audio and video artists. Katsiris has brought his sound to many notable venues, such as Whitechapel Art Gallery [London], La Société des Arts Technologiques [Montréal], Brut Konzerthaus [Vienna], and SESI Art & Cultural Center [São Paulo]. Scant Intone has also shared the stage with Fennesz, Merzbow, Okkyung Lee, Sawako, Crys Cole, Tim Hecker, and Zbigniew Karkowski, to name a few.

Raised in Toronto and based in Vancouver, Joda Clément has been performing and composing experimental music for over 15 years. His work utilizes analog and acoustic instruments, field recordings and feedback to carefully construct listening environments that transcend a distinction between sound, site, and source.

Joda has performed or exhibited in Canada and abroad, including appearances at The Music Gallery, MOCCA, Issue Project Room (NY), Reheat (Austria), Suoni Per Il Popolo, Extermination Music Night, Life Changing Ministry (CA), Electric Eclectics Festival, VIVO Media Arts Centre, MUTEK, Oboro New Media lab and the West Hollywood Library (CA).

His music has been released internationally on labels such as Alluvial Recordings (US), Glistening Examples (US), Mystery Sea (BE), Unfathomless (BE), caduc (CA) and Notice Recordings (US).

Sara Gold is a queer / non binary multidisciplinary artist crafting experimental hardware techno and cinematic soundscapes with power electronics for live performances and studio recordings. Thier dusty Arsenal of all vintage analog electronic instruments offers an unique array of full frequency tones and sub bass drones. 

Alanna Ho is a socially engaged artist working and learning on the unceded and traditional territories of the Qayqayt, Squamish, Tsleil Waututh and Musqueam Coast Salish peoples. Alanna’s work presents pedagogy and play as interconnected experiences; combining the use of new media and the reggio emilia approach, her workshops naturally foster fun sound exploration. Her multi-modal approach in S.T.E.A.M. education has been facilitated through galleries and schools.

Clarinetist François Houle has established himself as one of today’s most inventive musicians, in all of the diverse musical spheres he embraces. Inspired by collaborations with the world’s top musical innovators, François has developed a unique improvisational language, virtuosic and rich with sonic embellishment and technical extensions. His extensive touring has led to solo appearances at major festivals across Canada, the United States, Europe and Australia. A prolific recording artist, he has released over twenty recordings as a leader, earning multiple Juno Award and West Coast Music Award nominations. He is a faculty member at the Vancouver Community College School of Music, and former graduate clarinet studio instructor at the University of British Columbia. He served as Artistic Director of the Vancouver Creative Music Institute for five years. In 2008 he was appointed as “Associate Composer” of the Canadian Music Centre.
