One-Page Score Project – Terra Long (score), Terri Hron (music)

Notes from Terri Hron:
This sonification of Terra Long’s score is inspired by the single undulating marking that soaks into a surface, creating a dialogue between gesture, medium and absorption. I recorded a single fingering with an undulating finger gesture that mimicked the one from the score on renaissance consort recorders of various sizes. I then created negative space in the spectrogram by drawing single undulating gestures whose content I removed. I stretched and looped these altered samples, and layered them. I once again created negative space by outlining the shape of Terra’s marking in the spectrogram of the layered result, and removing much of what lay outside that shape.
