Polydimensional Scores: Material Study – Camosun Bog

Score by Alisa Tarabrina, Macy Burgess, Sam Street
Music by The Memory Palace (Dan Kibke)

Notes from Alisa Tarabrina, Macy Burgess, Sam Street:
This score was created through a process of material collection at the Camosun Bog, a rich and well-maintained ecosystem in the west side. This location holds many memories for all of us and many in the community, not to mention the many organisms and non-humans that call the bog home. Selecting iconic or vital cast-offs, these materials were then arranged into several compositions, which, photographed in sequence, form the main composition of the score. This was then accompanied with field recordings of the electrical substation adjacent the site, and presented to our musician collaborator, Dan Kibke, who interpreted the score for it’s final performance.

Notes from Dan Kibke (The Memory Palace):
The richness and layout of the materials for this score particularly excited me. Raw sounds were generated through a variety of methods from contact mics, dried leaves, objects and synthesizers re-processed and played live through modular synthesizer with the final parts arranged on a timeline against the score. The supplied field recording of the substation appears throughout as random blips generated by passing the audio through two low pass gates pinged by a random voltage and radioactive source (ERD/γ)
